Mission Call Opening - A Flashback of 25 Years
We finally got home from California the following weekend. We were scheduled to open the mission call on Sunday evening. That afternoon Garet pulled out his own mission call that he had received to Sevilla Spain (that mission has now been renamed Màlaga). While we were looking at the letter Tanner noticed that the letter was dated April 5, 1990, 25 years to the day that Tanner was opening his mission call.
As our friends and family gathered around we realized how lucky Tanner is to have such great influences in his life. The time finally came to open the mission call.

So relieved to know where he is going. Garet is holding his mission call from 25 years ago. |
Màlaga Spain! Leaving August 18, 2015. The most amazing part of this is that Tanner gets to go to the Madrid MTC with his best friend, Brady Smith. Brady was called to the Madrid Spain mission. They will be together in the MTC for six weeks before Tanner leaves for Màlaga. What a relief to his Mama!

It's About Time
Well... it's about time! We always thought that mission calls came on Wednesdays. We have since learned that with the influx of missionaries into the mission field, the LDS Church has required more time to make mission assignments and communicate those back to the missionaries and their families.
Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - Mailbox Trip #1 : No letter in the mail. Garet happened to be "patiently waiting" for the mailman when he pulled up. Garet got to know the mailman pretty well. He said that he would look out for the mission letter and call Garet if it came in the morning.
Thursday, March 26, 2015 - Still No Call : The nice mailman called at 6:30 a.m. to tell us that there were no mission calls that day and that he was leaving on vacation but would go in Friday morning to check. This was important to us because Tanner was leaving on a Woods Cross baseball trip early Friday morning. We were hoping to open the call before he left.
Friday, March 27, 2015 - The Long Wait Begins : The nice mailman went in at 6:00 a.m. to see if the mission call letter had come. He sent Garet a text and said that no mission calls had come that day in all of Bountiful. So the wait for another 10 days begins. We left for California for 10 days for baseball trip.
Saturday, March 28, 2015 - The Call from Lori : We got a text message with this photo attached. Thanks to Lori Watkins we were able to think about this lonely envelope sitting on our mantle until the following Sunday.
